WOOD CARE

We have taken great pride in creating a piece of furniture that can someday be passed down from generation to generation. Its lasting beauty, however, depends a great deal on the care it receives. Please refer to our Finishes page if you are unsure which Harden finish information applies to your furniture.

* Low Sheen/Matte Sheen/Satin Sheen/Semi-Gloss Sheen

• Avoid placing furniture near heat outlets, open windows or in direct sunlight.

Never leave pliable plastic items directly on wood surfaces.

Protect fine furniture finishes from hot dishes, alcohol and excessive moisture. Remove spills immediately.

Dust when needed with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth. Clean as required with a soft, damp cloth; wipe completely dry.

* Dry-Look Finishes

Avoid placing furniture near heat outlets or open windows.

Surfaces or edges exposed to heavy wear may require a periodic application of mineral oil or paste wax.

* Everyday Use

Sit only on structures designed for that purpose.

Avoid using chair stretchers or table pedestals as foot rests.

Avoid excessive scratching by lifting objects rather than dragging them across finished surfaces.

Allow the wood to breath. Dust often to remove everyday abrasive particles from wood surfaces.

Do not place hot items on a finish that will melt away or stain. Always use coasters under hot and cold beverages.

Beware of water from spills and condensation on drink glasses that can cause damage to coatings.

* Polish Information

Harden Furniture Polish is recommended for Harden Satin Sheen and Semi-Gloss Sheen finishes. It is not recommended for use on Harden Low Sheen finishes, as it will raise the sheen level and cause hang-up in distressed areas. Polish and aerosols containg silicone should never be used.

UPHOLSTERY CARE

Fabric

Tips to maintain your upholstered furniture as suggested by the AFMA (American Furniture Manufacturers' Association) and Harden Furniture:

* Vacuum upholstery and rotate cushions once weekly to avoid fabric problems.

* Avoid exposing your upholstery to continuous direct sunlight to prevent fading.

* Follow the fabric cleaning instructions as denoted by the cleaning symbol listed on the deck label affixed to your piece of furniture.

Code: W - Clean with the foam only of a water-based cleaning agent to remove overall soil. Many household cleaning solvents are harmful to the color and life of a fabric. Dry cleaning by a professional furniture cleaning service only is recommended. To prevent overall soil, frequent vacuuming or light brushing to remove dust and grime is recommended.

Code: WS - Clean with shampoo, foam or dry cleaning solvents as desired. Do not saturate with liquid. Pile fabrics may require brushing to restore appearance. Cushion covers should NOT be removed and dry cleaned.

Code: S - Clean with pure solvents (petroleum distillate-based products) in a well ventilated room. Dry cleaning by a professional furniture cleaning service only is recommended.

        CAUTION: Use of water-based or detergent-based solvent cleaners may cause excessive shrinking. Water stains may become permanent and unable to be removed with solvent cleaning agents.

        NOTE: Avoid products containing Tetrachloride as it is higly toxic. To prevent overall soil, frequent vacuuming or light brushing to remove dust and grime is recommended.

Code: SW - Clean with the foam only of a water-based cleaning agent or with pure solvents (petroleum distillate-based products, Energine, Carbona, Renuzit, or similar products may be used) in a well ventilated room. Dry cleaning by a professional furniture cleaning service only is recommended. To prevent overall soil, frequent vacuuming or light brushing to remove dust and grime is recommended.

Code: X - Clean this fabric only by vacuuming or light brushing to prevent the accumulation of dust and grime. Water-based or detergent-based solvent cleaning agents of any kind may cause excessive shrinking or fading.

Leather

Try to maintain at least two feet between your furniture and heating sources. Prolonged exposure to heat vents or radiators will cause your leather to dry out.

Protect your furniture from all sources of sunlight. All Nubuck leathers will fade when exposed to direct sunlight. Do not place your furniture by windows, under skylights or in the sunlight.

Keep the leather dust-free with weekly vacuuming. Use a soft cleaning cloth to pick up surface soiling and return the leather to its original look and feel. Simply wrap the cloth around a soft dry sponge and rub the leather in several directions to lift soiling and renew the Nubuck or Aniline effect. This will also reverse flat and shiny areas that appear from use.

All leathers perform better when preventative maintenance is practiced. Treatment of the surface with a Leather Protector will greatly improve its resistance to staining and soiling. It is most important that you treat the high use areas like seats, backs, and arms.

Never use harsh chemicals or cleaning agents on your leather furniture. Avoid all products containing solvents or oils because they will negatively effect the surface of the leather.
